Apple has officially released its iOS 27.2 update, bringing a wealth of refinements, artificial intelligence enhancements and hardware integration features to supported devices.
To install iOS 27.2 on an iPhone 11 or newer (or an iPhone SE 2 or later), simply navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to download and apply the software package.
Here are seven of the biggest new features and improvements included in the update:
1. Expanded Siri AI context and multilingual support
Siri AI receives a major capability boost on compatible devices from the iPhone 15 Pro and later. The assistant can now remember past conversations and pull richer context from more personal data sources, including photo attachments in Messages, Calendar event attendees, and voicemails, alongside improved search results from Safari history and Reading Lists.
Furthermore, Apple is expanding Siri AI language support beyond English to include French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish (though the feature remains in beta and is still unavailable in the EU due to local regulations).
2. Granular text selection and excluded apps for Siri
Managing how your AI assistant interacts with your device is now easier thanks to two practical additions. Users can now utilize granular text selection to easily copy and paste specific parts of Siri’s responses rather than being forced to copy the entire block. Additionally, a new “Excluded Apps” list allows you to exercise precise privacy control over which apps Siri, Search and system suggestions are permitted to access.
3. Contextual suggestions in Messages
The Messages app gets smarter with a brand-new contextual suggestions feature. By analysing the flow and content of your active conversations, the app automatically generates tappable shortcuts and proactive prompts, such as instantly offering to add a dinner invitation or upcoming event directly to your Calendar without requiring manual entry.

4. SynthID watermarking for Image Playground
To combat the spread of deceptive/deepfake media, Apple has integrated invisible SynthID watermarking into its AI ecosystem. Images generated using the Image Playground tool, alongside heavily edited photos modified with tools like Reframe or Extend, will now carry this hidden digital signature. This aligns Apple with other tech giants like Google, making it easier to reliably identify AI-generated visuals.
5. Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo
Following the launch of Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, iOS 27.2 officially introduces hardware support for the USB-C Apple Pencil. Foldable owners can now utilise the stylus directly on the device’s expansive 7.6-inch inner screen, bringing enhanced productivity and precise navigation to the folding form factor.
6. A fresh black-and-white Apple Music Icon
Aesthetic tweaks have also arrived across native applications. Apple Music receives a striking visual redesign, swapping out its traditional red background for a sleek, minimalist black-and-white app icon that brings its branding more closely in line with the company’s other software.
7. Dual Capture for group FaceTime calls
Group video communication gets a versatile upgrade with the introduction of Dual Capture for group FaceTime calls. This feature allows users to simultaneously stream and display content from both their front and rear-facing cameras during a call, offering a more dynamic sharing experience alongside other minor layout updates in apps like Podcasts and Games.
