A Kindle for $104 is a price we can get behind

A Kindle leaning against books on a bookshelf.

Amazon announced new Kindle models last week, introducing a variety of new devices that bring welcome enhancements to already refined hardware. Unfortunately, Amazon is charging top dollar for those products, even as its Prime Big Deal Days event runs October 6 and 7. Of course, that doesn't mean other models aren't on sale, and if you're looking to dive in for the first time, the most basic model for $104 is a no-brainer.

The least amount of risk

If you've never handled an e-reader, it can be quite jarring when compared to a phone or tablet. The interface is a little slower and the screen doesn't really exude that same premium experience as what we'd find on products with LCD and OLED screens. Yet, it has its appeal.

It's still sharp, while being easy on the eyes. You also get impressive battery life that can last up to six weeks. The main benefit I would say, though, is that you get a distraction-free experience. There aren't other apps on the Kindle so you just focus on reading.

This Kindle might be the most basic, but it still packs all the features you need for a great reading experience. You get an adjustable backlight, and 16GB of storage for thousands of books. You can even customize the look with new covers.

This bundle even includes three months of Kindle Unlimited to help you get your reading adventure started. If you have a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earbuds, you can even listen to audiobooks on this Kindle as well.

For the most part, we don't think you can go wrong with this model for $104. Just be sure to pick it up before the sale ends.

The newest Kindle is just a small step up from its predecessor, but if you're due for an upgrade, this is a solid choice with its higher contrast and faster page turns. Plus that new Matcha color looks good.
