Amazon has announced a redesign of its Kindle family, introducing next-generation models that are a millimetre thinner, thirty per cent faster at opening books and built with user-replaceable batteries to comply with EU regulations.
Across the board, the new lineup features relocated power buttons on the right edge, soft-touch plastic cases, and – for the first time – premium aluminium back housing options that double the internal storage from 16GB to 32GB.
The refreshed base 6-inch Kindle starts at £134.99 or $149.99 with 16GB of storage, featuring a new flush-front design in graphite and a rich purple shade called ‘ube’.
For those seeking a more premium touch, an aluminium-backed variant with 32GB of storage is available in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green for £169.99 or $189.99.
Stepping up in the family, the new Kindle Paperwhite is thinner, lighter, waterproof, and offers up to 12 weeks of battery life. The standard 16GB Paperwhite in graphite starts at £184.99, while the upgraded Paperwhite Signature Edition – featuring an aluminium housing, 32GB storage, auto-adjusting light, dock charging, and double-tap page turning – retails for £229.99 in graphite and Seaglass Green.
Meanwhile, the new brings paper-like colour reading to the portfolio without tablet glare. The base 16GB Colorsoft is priced at £259.99, and the Colorsoft Signature Edition (pictured above), which is equipped with aluminium housing, 32GB storage, and pogo-pin dock charging, costs £289.99 in graphite and fig.
While the entry-level Kindle focuses on compact, pocket-sized reading with flush-screen designs, the Paperwhite adds waterproofing, extended battery life, and warm lighting.
Finally, the Colorsoft models introduce full-colour displays tailored for comics and graphical content, with the higher-end Signature variants distinguishing themselves through premium aluminium builds, double-tap navigation, and dock compatibility.
