Anthropic is letting some Claude subscribers in the US connect their bank and card accounts and ask the chatbot about their money, the company said on Thursday. Personal Finance is rolling out in beta on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, and its access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money.
Users link accounts through Plaid, so Claude never sees their bank password. Claude can then explain where their money went each month and spot duplicate charges or fees. It can also build charts and dashboards from balances and up to two years of transactions.
Anthropic says Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations, and it does not offer credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own. Hub chats are not used for training, and chats using linked accounts stay out of Claude’s shared memory, its help pages say. Anthropic also warns that Claude can make mistakes and tells users to check important figures with their bank.
There are limits. For investment, loan and card accounts, Claude reads only balances and credit limits, and users can link up to 16 US banks, according to Anthropic’s help pages. Figures already shared stay in chats, artifacts and shared links until users delete them, even after a bank is unlinked.
OpenAI launched a similar feature in May, letting ChatGPT see bank accounts through Plaid, first for its $200-a-month Pro tier. Unlike Anthropic, OpenAI has started showing ads in ChatGPT.
Anthropic calls Personal Finance “a first step.” It is exploring how Claude could work with licensed professionals and regulated firms on bigger money decisions, and has already built a version for financial advisers. It has also brought small business finances into Claude through Xero.
