Apple has opened Siri AI to every app developer. A Developer Preview lets any app bring its content and actions into Siri AI, Apple said on Tuesday. It ships in the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas.
Until now, apps could only plug into Siri through categories that Apple defined. Now developers can use App Intents to expose their own custom actions. Apple’s examples include checking a delivery, booking a reservation and placing an order.
Siri AI skills for apps
Apple is also introducing skills, which let developers teach Siri AI to combine several actions into a single request. Siri AI can also surface any item in the Spotlight search index. Before, it only found items that fit Apple’s existing categories.
“So people can just ask for help in their own words,” Apple wrote.
Users won’t always have to name the app, The Verge reported, citing Apple’s documentation. That applies when the app is open on screen or showing a Live Activity. It also applies when a Siri conversation already involves the app.
Apple has started rolling out the same abilities across 15 of its own apps, such as Mail, Maps, Photos and Safari. Users can ask Siri to find a coffee shop they visited last week. They can also archive files they have not opened in over a year.
When users get it
The preview is for testing only. Apple expects the first integrations to reach customers in a few months. App Store submissions open in the spring. It said it will share terms and usage policies for Siri AI experiences later.
Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple said it is working with the EU on a path forward. It is also not available to users under 13.
Daily limits, and a fee
Apple’s announcement also confirms that some Apple Intelligence features face daily usage limits. The limits cover features that run on Apple’s servers. They include Siri AI, the photo editing tools, Image Playground and the cloud models in Shortcuts.
“Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future,” Apple wrote.
Apple did not say what the fee will be. Siri AI launched with iOS 27 in September and gained a memory in iOS 27.2. The same 27.3 betas also brought Apple Watch listening tools into testing.
