Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, the first big update to iOS 27, alongside new versions of iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS and tvOS. Most of the new features are for Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant Apple released in beta in September.
Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English, Apple said in a Newsroom post. Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese follow by the end of the year. The assistant is still labelled a beta, and the device must be set to a supported language.
Siri AI gets a memory
Siri AI can now recall past conversations, so users can ask about something it said before, such as the restaurants it suggested last week. That comes from Apple’s release notes, which MacRumors published in full.
Siri AI can also draw on more of a user’s data. That now includes photos sent in Messages, the people invited to Calendar events, voicemails, and Safari history and Reading List.
A new setting, Excluded Apps, lets users choose, in one place, which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Users can also select and copy just part of a Siri reply.
The Siri AI features need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model or later.
Still not in Europe
Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple first delayed it in Europe in June, blaming the Digital Markets Act. In Monday’s post it said:
“Apple is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.” Apple, in its Newsroom post
The release notes also say Siri AI is not available in mainland China, where Apple’s first AI features are due in December. EU users do get one change of their own: iOS 27.2 adds an alternative, expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency there, MacRumors reported.
In Messages, iOS 27.2 suggests actions based on the conversation, such as adding a dinner invitation to Calendar. Photos and Image Playground now support SynthID, the watermark Google uses to mark AI images, to help show whether an image was made or changed with generative tools. Google opened its SynthID Detector to everyone earlier this month.
The iPhone Duo has its own release notes. They add Edge Light, which uses the screen to light the user’s face on video calls, alongside the Apple Pencil support reported on Monday.
On the Mac, macOS Golden Gate 27.2 brings the same Siri memory and Messages suggestions. Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 with security fixes for older iPhones. All the updates install from Settings, then General, then Software Update.
