Apple’s touchscreen MacBook and iPad mini could launch in days

Apple could be just weeks away from unveiling its first touchscreen MacBook, a redesigned iPad mini and other hardware updates.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly preparing to announce its long-awaited touchscreen laptop on or around October 27. This would mark a major change for a company that has traditionally kept touchscreens exclusive to its iPads.

The new laptop, potentially called the MacBook Ultra, is expected to feature an interface that adapts depending on whether users are interacting through the touchscreen or the usual keyboard and trackpad. This would bring a more tablet-like experience to the MacBook without abandoning its traditional laptop design.

As for performance, the touchscreen MacBook could feature Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, rather than the newer M6 processor. Previous reports suggest that Pro and Max versions of the M6 aren’t expected just yet. However, Apple hasn’t confirmed any specifications.

The MacBook isn’t the only device reportedly getting attention. Apple is also expected to unveil a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, replacing the LCD panel found on the current model. The move could bring deeper blacks, improved contrast and a more premium viewing experience to Apple’s smallest tablet.

Meanwhile, the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac are reportedly in line for smaller updates. Both are expected to receive the M6 chip. That would be a step up from the M5-powered MacBook Pro and the M4-powered iMac currently on sale.

The potential announcements would add to an already busy year for Apple, following the summer debut of its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The company is also reportedly preparing to introduce new smart home devices on October 13.

Nothing is official yet, and Gurman’s suggested October 27 date could still change. However, if the reports are accurate, Apple could be preparing one of its more interesting MacBook updates in years.
