A simple and effective fridge freezer, the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG offers excellent build quality. Its temperature control in the fridge could be a bit more consistent, and some extra shelf flexibility would be appreciated, but the overall size and layout make this a great choice for anyone who wants straightforward food storage.

Although a more entry-level fridge freezer in the company’s line-up, the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG gets all of the basics right: good temperature control and flexible internal space.
You don’t get more advanced features, such as app control or water dispensing, but if you want to focus on decent straightforward cooling, then this French-door model is great.
Design and Features
- Very large fridge space
- Dedicated drawers for fruit/vegetables and meat/fish
- Two separate freezer compartments
The Series 4 range might sit at the entry-level of Bosch’s line-up, but the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG is still expertly made. Its stainless steel finish looks great, and this fridge freezer will make a statement in any kitchen.
As is getting more common, the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG is a French door model, with the fridge running across the top of the unit, full-width. Accessed via the two doors on top, this space is huge: 405L in total.

That fridge space is quite a bit higher than direct competitors, such as the Hisense RQ5P640SYSD.
The flip side is that the Bosch KFN96VPEAG has slightly smaller freezer space at 200L, split between two 100L compartments. Overall, that’s 605L of space, which is a lot, but a little behind the competition; the Hisense fridge freezer has 640L of space.
Overall, Bosch has done a good job organising the space. There are three main shelves inside, all of which are fixed. The middle shelf has a choice of a few positions, so you can adjust the gap between them. Ideally, I would have liked a split-shelf that can slide out of the way to fit taller items.

The lack of this option is slightly countered by the large door pockets, of which you get five. These are deep and the bottom ones have clever dividers. I managed to fit in multiple large bottles of drink and big milk cartons without issue.

At the top is a closable box, which could be handy for storing snacks or loose items, although you can put in anything you want.

There are two drawers at the bottom, one VitaFresh XXL and one VitaFresh 0°C. The 0°C drawer is ideal for meat and fish, which benefit from colder temperatures.

The VitaFresh XXL drawer has a humidity slider on top. This is usefully labelled to help you choose the right setting: vegetables or fruit.

At the bottom of the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG are two identical freezer compartments. Unlike many rivals, neither compartment can be converted into extra fridge space.

Each side has three large drawers, which slide out easily. Between the six drawers, it’s easy to organise your food the way you want.

Controls are on the front, with a simple control panel that lets me set the fridge and freezer temperatures separately. There are also Super Cool and Super Freeze options that, respectively, rapidly cool the fridge and freezer compartments, for when you load them up with fresh food.

- Good fridge temperature control
- Excellent freezer temperature control
- Competitive running costs
To see how well the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG performed, I loaded it with freezer blocks to simulate food, and set the fridge to 4°C and the freezer to -18°C. I then used temperature sensors, spread through the compartments, to measure temperatures.
Overall, the fridge compartment had an average temperature of 3.75°C, just 0.25°C colder than the target. Standard deviation showed that most temperatures fluctuated by +/-1.26°C, which is a little higher than the ideal of 1°C.
That’s because the temperature varies quite a bit between the top (average of 5°C), middle (average 3.72°C) and bottom (average 2.47°C).
I measured the 0°C drawer at an average of 0.47°C, which is significantly lower than the average fridge temperature. The minimum temperature I recorded was -0.8°C, so there’s little chance of anything freezing, allowing the cold temperatures to prolong food life.
Moving to the freezer section, the average temperature was -19.11°C, or -1.11°C colder than the target of -18°C. Temperatures through the top, middle and bottom were similar, with standard deviation showing that most temperatures fluctuated by +/-0.76°C. That’s below the 1°C ideal that I aim for.
Although an E-rated appliance (as are most appliances of this size), the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG has competitive running costs. Measuring power consumption, I estimated that this model would cost £78.42 a year to run, or just 13p per litre of internal space.
Should you buy it?
You want simple but effective cooling
You want more features
If you want a smart app, sliding shelves or an integrated water and ice dispenser, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
It lacks a bit of flexibility and, ideally, fridge temperature control would be a little more stable, but the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96VPEAG is exceptionally well built, and has huge fridge space with large door pockets.
If you want basic cooling with high build quality, this is a great choice; if you want more features, such as a water dispenser or smart app control, read my guide to the best fridge freezers.
