Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo 2 gets a bigger screen and video skills

Fujifilm has unveiled the Instax Mini Evo 2, bringing a larger touchscreen, upgraded camera sensor and video recording to its popular hybrid instant camera range.

The biggest change is the 4.5-inch touchscreen, replacing the original Mini Evo‘s 3-inch display and rear buttons. It’s also the first Instax camera to feature a touchscreen, making it easier to frame shots, review photos and switch between the camera’s 10 lens effects and 10 film effects.

These can be combined to create 100 different looks, while the familiar physical dials and film-style print lever remain for those who prefer traditional controls.

Fujifilm has also introduced an Expanded View mode, which shows more of the surrounding scene to help with framing without changing the final photo. The camera continues to print on 2 x 3-inch Instax Mini film at 600 dpi, with Rich and Natural modes available for different print finishes.

Easily the most interesting addition for us is Immersive Movie, which allows the Mini Evo 2 to capture four seconds of footage before a photo is taken.

It’s the first video feature on an Instax Evo camera, although recording is limited to approximately 560 x 992 pixels at 24fps without audio. Users will also need a separate microSD card for video, as the built-in storage only holds around 45 photos.

As for the hardware, the Mini Evo 2 gets a 16MP 1/2.77-inch sensor, replacing the original’s smaller 1/5-inch sensor, alongside a 21mm f/2.0 lens. There’s also a macro mode, selfie mirror and manual adjustments for exposure, white balance and flash.

The camera supports USB-C charging, remote shooting and smartphone photo printing through Fujifilm’s companion app. It will be available in black, with Instax film and microSD cards sold separately.
