Fitness wearables have largely been left in the dust, with smartwatches dominating wearable sales over the past decade. However, we got a bit of a surprise this year, as major brands like Google, Garmin, and Fitbit entered the space with new offerings.
That said, Samsung looks set to throw its hat in the ring with the Galaxy Fit 4. And now, it looks like we're getting a look through a leaked video showing what the device will look like and which colors it will be available in.
Nothing to really write home about
The Galaxy Fit has been around for a few years now and delivers a wearable with a screen that tracks your health and fitness metrics. We enjoyed our time with the Galaxy Fit 3, but it really didn't get widespread recognition here in the United States.
Based on the images provided by Android Authority, the Galaxy Fit 4 looks like more of the same. The news outlet obtained a video of the device showing it from 360 degrees. Like the Galaxy Fit 3, the main element will be the display.
This part attaches to silicone bands that allow users to wear it. The bands can be swapped out, so customization is possible. However, we don't know whether this will be the case for the upcoming model.
We doubt Samsung will change this because it is a crucial part of the experience. The device appears to come in three colors: black, white, and what looks like mint. On the hardware front, if Samsung wants to make a real splash, it will need to add new technologies that beat its predecessor and its competitors.
The competition is tough this year
Most recently, it appears that these types of devices are making a comeback. The latest is from Google: the Fitbit Edge. It brings a lot to the table if you don't want a full-on smartwatch, and it does so at a lower price.
However, the Galaxy Fit sits in an entirely different category thanks to its affordable price. Most retailers sell it for under $65, which is an absolute steal. We don't think Samsung will aim to make the newer model higher-end.
A lot of information is floating around about this device, but nothing is concrete yet. Again, this will most likely be a lower-end device, so we don't expect Samsung to pull out all the stops on the hardware.
We don't even have a release date, and the company hasn't even hinted that something like this is making its debut. But we don't think Samsung has much to worry about; it has a screen and should provide great tracking. The price is what's going to set it apart.
