Samsung's built some excellent smart tags in the past, so we're happy to finally see a revision come up with the Galaxy SmartTag 3. It's smaller, lighter, and offers longer tracking range. Perhaps the biggest news is that this new device will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
It looks different but it's still distinct
Now, if you want to know how dramatic the physical changes are, Samsung says the volume is about 35% smaller, and the device is 33% lighter than the previous model. We didn't think the previous iteration was bulky at all.
In fact, we like that it stood out from other smart tags on the market, but if Samsung wants to make its new smart tags more compact, we're not complaining about these changes. At least the design still looks unique and elegant, while still offering excellent durability.
Although the SmartTag 3 doesn't have a built-in keyring, the brand will offer accessories so you can easily attach it to bags, luggage, pets, and other items. Despite all the changes, the SmartTag 3 still retains an IP67 rating, protecting it from dust and moisture.
The performance is still there
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 still delivers excellent tracking features. It uses Samsung's Galaxy Find My network to triangulate where the smart tag might be, utilizing over 900 million devices around the world. You get more precise directions with Compass View, backed by Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology, and it also has UWB onboard.
We've seen this on other modern smart tags, and we're glad Samsung is including it on the SmartTag 3. No matter how far you are from the device, you can rely on precise directions once you start getting closer, thanks to these two technologies working in tandem. And just because it's smaller doesn't mean you're not getting the same great battery life as the previous model.
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 offers up to 550 days of battery life under regular use and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. Those are some numbers that you can feel confident about.
Some extras
In addition, Samsung provides a feature called Place Notification, which alerts the user when a tagged item enters and leaves a user-defined area. The SmartTag 3 also provides Location History, Movement Detection Alert, and a Left Behind Alert.
Lost Mode helps ensure the SmartTag returns to you if it gets lost, and you can also use the device to trigger routines with compatible smart devices. We know you're excited to get your hands on the SmartTag 3, but it won't be available until sometime in early November.
It will cost $29.99 for one, and a four-pack will cost $99.99. They will be available in two colors: black and white. So, look out for this device come the holiday season.
