Global semiconductor revenue broke previous records in the second quarter of 2026, surging 31.4% quarter-over-quarter to reach an all-time high of $425 billion.

According to new research data from Omdia, this unprecedented expansion brings total industry revenue for the first half of the year to $752 billion.

This latest surge highlights a fundamental shift in the global tech economy, heavily propelled by relentless artificial intelligence infrastructure demands. Because advanced AI workloads require unprecedented memory capacity and bandwidth, memory chip manufacturers have completely reshaped their production priorities.

This dynamic has severely tightened supply-demand balances, driving up average selling prices. Consequently, accounted for more than half of the entire global semiconductor market in 2Q26.

Components such as DRAM, NAND and NOR flash each recorded their highest sequential second-quarter growth and peak quarterly revenue since Omdia began tracking the market in 2002.

However, the explosive growth is not isolated to memory alone. Non-memory semiconductor components are also performing remarkably well above typical seasonal norms.

While historical data from 2002 through 2025 indicates that second-quarter non-memory growth typically hovers around 3%, the sector expanded by more than 10% quarter-over-quarter in 2Q26. experienced a 16% sequential jump as they increasingly integrate into broader AI infrastructure.

Looking ahead, market momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Omdia forecasts that global semiconductor revenue will comfortably exceed $500 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This trajectory will push cumulative revenue for the first three quarters past $1.25 trillion, amounting to 50% more than the total revenue recorded for the entire 2025 calendar year.
