Goldmund’s new flagship analogue preamplifier, the Mimesis Statement, has launched at a sky high price.
Goldmund has rethought the preamplifier’s architecture entirely from previous generations, and the new design places precision and signal integrity at the centre of the brand’s pursuit of a more faithful musical experience.
That rethink starts with the three-chassis layout, which physically separates the preamp electronics from two external power supply units, with one unit dedicated to the left channel and the other to the right.
A fully symmetrical internal architecture works alongside that physical split to isolate the left and right channels from each other, which gives the audio circuitry stable, low-noise conditions to operate in.
The Statement also adopts a new generation of power supply electronics that builds on Goldmund’s discrete regulation principle and adds extra voltage-regulation stages, which the brand credits with exceptional noise rejection.
Beyond the power stage, a newly developed audio board introduces both a new architecture and new volume-control management, which further refines how the preamplifier manages the signal throughout its circuitry.
Proprietary internal wiring and optimised heat dissipation round out the engineering changes, with Goldmund using both to minimise interference and to maintain optimal operating conditions for the electronics inside the preamplifier.
Those engineering changes show up in the preamplifier’s published measurements, which list a frequency response from 0.2Hz to 1.5MHz (±3dB) and THD+N of 0.0002% from unbalanced input to unbalanced output.
Intermodulation distortion stays similarly low at 0.0006% IMD+N on the same unbalanced input-to-output path, while the preamplifier’s signal-to-noise ratio sits above 130dB on line input and above 138dB when A-weighted.
With those results in mind, this ranks as most advanced analogue preamplifier to date, with a focus on transparency and signal integrity that lets the dynamics, nuances and character of a recording pass through with minimal alteration.
On the connectivity side, the preamplifier adds two Trigger Out connections that switch between 0V and 12V, which lets it control the operating state of two compatible power amplifiers at the same time.
Externally, a new cover glass display and metal-coated front-panel controls refresh the design, while a fine recessed gold line runs across all three chassis and visually unites units that Goldmund deliberately separates by function.
Pricing for the Mimesis Statement is stratospheric. It’ll set back any prospective owner $240,000 / £182,000.
