You'll no longer have to do a deep dive into the settings when trying to edit a video before sending it to someone. The latest Google Photos update brings the Quick Edits feature to videos, allowing you to access some of the most vital video editing tools right before you share videos to friends and colleagues.
It's about time
The update is now rolling out to all users, with Android Authority sharing that they have seen the feature in Google Photos version 7.95.0.989626323. We've all been there, we're excited to share a photo or video with someone, but there's something small you want to edit from the media before sending it out.
You're already locked into the Share menu, so it's either you back out and make the edit, or you just let it go through as is. Well, back in July 2025, Google introduced its Quick Edits feature for photos that gives you a chance to make small adjustments right before you hit send.
Circling back, this feature will now be available for videos going forward. From what we can see, you'll be able to crop videos, apply a quick fix, music, text, add filters, and more. While you don't have access to all the editing tools, the important ones like cropping and one-tap color adjustments are available.
Some would love to see full access to all the editing tools, but what's there, is more than enough for most people in the spur of the moment. That's what this tool is for, so it works as intended and is much appreciated as it's now available to use with videos. So, if you want to give this a try or want to see how it looks, you'll want to update your app.
But, to be clear, you need to have a device running Android 14 and newer in order to gain access to this feature. We know that Google doesn't really announce these small changes, but it's nice to get these small useful surprises along the way larger updates.
Google Photos has evolved so much since it was first released. And while it feels pretty complete, Google still manages to find ways to improve it. We don't know where the app will go in the next couple of years, but we have a feeling that more and more AI tools will start to become the norm.
And while it is the go-to app for most people on Android, there are some great alternatives if you're looking to move away from the platform. Some will even take it a step further and host images and videos on their own server in order to gain more control. It's a good way to go, but I'd recommend having multiple backups just in case.
