Back in the summer, Google announced its new Pixel lineup that included new phones and smartwatches. However, a promotional image showed an unannounced device, leaving many scratching their heads. To this day, Google has yet to shed light on what it is, but we're slowly getting more details from unofficial sources.
Just yesterday, we learned that this upcoming wearable would reportedly be called the Fitbit Edge. And now, we're getting all the fine details about the hardware, which should give us a more complete picture of what to expect. The information comes from Dealabs Magazine, which is providing hardware specifications, prices, and the colors that will be available when it comes to market.
This could get interesting
Fitbit devices were getting pretty long in the tooth. So, fans of the brand were pretty excited when Fitbit announced the Air. While it didn't have a screen, it did show that parent company Google was still investing in the brand.
Now, we're reportedly getting a nice follow-up with the Fitbit Edge. What makes this one exciting is that it has a screen. As far as what to expect in terms of hardware, the news outlet shares that the Edge will have a 1.34-inch screen. In addition, it will also have the usual batch of sensors for monitoring health and fitness metrics.
That includes a heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensors, a barometer, a gyroscope, and more. It will also run Fitbit OS with access to a coaching system powered by Gemini. That last one is going to be a pretty big deal and will most likely be a huge focus on how it sets itself apart from its competitors.
It has Bluetooth 5.4 and GPS, plus up to seven days of battery life. Naturally, this wearable is durable, packs an IP68 rating and 5ATM water resistance. When it comes to pricing, this one will be priced above the Air, coming in at €179. It's a touch more than the Fitbit Charge 6, which is similar, but the Edge will offer more modern components and features.
Again, none of this is set in stone. But it is being reported. Of course, colors are important, and the Fitbit Edge will come in muted colors that Google has been using on all of its devices for some years now. If the reporting is accurate, we should see the Edge arrive in four colors: Obsidian, Olive, Canyon, and Fog. Now, all that's left is finding out when this thing will be available for purchase.
Smartwatches are great, but not everyone wants something like that on their wrist. This offers some connectivity, but mainly focuses on health and fitness. It provides the perfect compromise. We know that a lot of Fitbit fans have been waiting for something like this so it will be interesting to see just how popular it will become.
