Google has released the October 2026 update for supported Pixel devices.

Last month, Google rolled out the big Android 17 QPR1 update for Pixel phones, bringing new features like an updated Pixel VIP widget, UI changes across the board, screen recording improvements, and smoother animations. Now, the company has released the October 2026 security patch for Android 17 across all supported Pixel devices.

As stated by Google on its support page, the monthly software update is available for all supported Pixel devices running Android 17, including devices ranging from the Pixel 6 series all the way through the new lineup. The rollout will continue in phases over the next week, so it may take some time for the update to appear depending on your device and carrier.

Google has also detailed three notable bug fixes included with the October 2026 update. The first fixes an issue that could occasionally prevent the virtual keyboard from appearing when interacting with search fields. Google has also fixed a bug that could cause audio noise or distortion in ringtones during certain VoIP calls.

The third fix addresses an issue that could occasionally cause captured photos or recorded videos to be saved in the wrong orientation. In addition to those bug fixes, the October Android security patch dated October 1,October Android security patch 2026, addresses 28 security vulnerabilities. Google's dedicated Pixel security bulletin lists another six Pixel-specific security fixes as well.

To check for the update on your Pixel, head to Settings > System > Software updates > System update, then then check for update. The OTA may not have reached your device just yet, but it's worth checking again as Google continues the rollout. Factory images and OTA files are also available if you prefer installing the update manually.

This could be the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro's last update

It's also worth noting that this could be the final software update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

Google originally launched the Pixel 6 series in 2021 with three years of major Android OS updates and five years of security updates. However, in December 2024, the company extended software support for the Pixel 6 series to five years of both OS and security updates.

That extended support window takes the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro through October 2026, and we've now reached that point with this month's update. Google hasn't confirmed whether the October update is officially the last one for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and there's always a chance the company could release another update or an important security fix afterward.

But unless Google decides to extend support once again, the October 2026 update should mark the end of regular software support for Google's Pixel 6 flagship phones.
