Mint Mobile’s Black Friday deal is live — and it looks rather familiar

I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Mint Mobile's Black Friday sale, and the new deals don't disappoint. Just in time for the holidays, all the carrier's wireless plans have dropped to just $15 per month, regardless of the data allotment or length of time you purchase. And yes, that includes Mint's popular Unlimited plan. Is this MVNO deal right for you? What does the fine print entail? Let's break it down.

As part of its Black Friday promotion, Mint Mobile is dropping all of its data plans to just $15 per month, including Unlimited. Three months of T-Mobile-powered wireless service for one upfront payment of $45? I'm in.

If this deal looks familiar, it's because Mint ran a very similar offer earlier this year. I said it then, and I'll say it now: I don't love the language here. When Mint Mobile says that all of its plans are just $15 per month, it means that you'll need to pay a minimum of $45 upfront. That's because the carrier operates with a buy-in-bulk plan system that requires you to purchase wireless in 3, 6, or 12-month increments of time when you sign up. It affect the quality of the deal, but it could be a bit misleading for folks who are unfamiliar with Mint's unique structure.

That said, as long as you're okay with committing to one wireless plan for a minimum of three months, this deal is the cheapest and easiest way to enjoy unlimited wireless on T-Mobile's legendary network. For just $45 upfront, you're getting three months of unlimited talk, text, and data powered by T-Mo, in addition to a free mobile hotspot and calls to Mexico, Canada, and the UK. You can also sign up for six months or a year for $90 and $180, respectively. Compare that to your last phone bill from any Big Three carrier and you'll see why Mint is one of the industry's most popular .

Is Mint Mobile's Black Friday deal worth it?

Like all MVNOs, Mint Mobile does come with a few limitations. For starters, the are pretty bare-bones. No premium perks or free streaming subscriptions here. Mint provides simple, reliable wireless for folks who just want simple, reliable wireless; it's actually one of the things I love most about the provider.

It's also worth mentioning that speeds on Mint Mobile's unlimited plan will slow after 50GB, so if you're a particularly heavy data user, it might be worth looking for a different wireless plan. For the vast majority of users, however, no de-prioritization will be noticeable when you go with Mint.

So is the carrier's Black Friday deal right for you? Well, are you comfortable committing to a minimum of three months with one provider? Do you just want cheap, reliable coverage on one of the nation's best wireless networks? If you answered yes to these questions, then taking advantage of Mint Mobile's Black Friday deal is a smart move.
