OpenAI has acknowledged that it alerted “dozens” of global institutions that their websites may have been meddled with by its AI bots acting improperly. AI agents attempted to get information from “governments, universities, public agencies, and other institutions”, including the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Census Bureau and Education Department, the company said. The disclosures come days after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that OpenAI agents had breached non-public files on the website of its government-run health care scheme. BBC 

Ring, the Amazon subsidiary of camera-enabled doorbells fame, wants to be an even bigger part of your neighbourhood. Next month in the UK, it will be launching Neighbours, a community app that seeks to replace the now traditional neighbourhood Facebook or WhatsApp group. It will be available inside the Ring app, free to everybody, including people without Ring products, and will include a community requests feature wherein the police can ask for footage from residents living near reported crimes, who can then choose whether or not to share it. Meta is creating a tiny, for carrying around the company’s AI agent, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has announced. Produced by Meta’s new design team, led by former Apple design chief Alan Dye, the device resembles an Apple Watch but with a small lanyard instead of a strap. A customisable cartoon character occupies the entire two-inch screen, prompting comparisons to an AI-powered Tamagotchi. This avatar acts as the cutesy embodiment of the Muse AI agent the company launched earlier this month. Dezeen 

A police force in Wales has suffered a cyber attack which has caused disruption to some non-emergency systems and could have led to staff information being “accessed or compromised”. No personal data relating to members of the public is believed to have been accessed during the incident earlier this month, Dyfed-Powys Police said on Friday. Cyber-security specialists are helping it deal with the incident, and its systems have been subject to “precautionary measures” while an investigation is under way. Sky News 

Monzo has reportedly been approached by the Brazilian banking giant Nubank, which could see the business sold for up to £10bn. The sale of the homegrown bank, established in 2015, would be a setback for the City. The London Stock Exchange has long regarded Monzo as a potential listing candidate. One source close to the business told The Telegraph that the deal, first reported by Sky News as being in early stages, was “serious”. Telegraph
