Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could be Qualcomm-only

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra could launch exclusively with a Qualcomm processor, despite reports suggesting the company’s next-generation Exynos 2700 chip could be a strong contender.

According to a new insider tip, Samsung is leaning towards using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 across all Galaxy S27 Ultra models, rather than splitting chipsets between regions as it has done with some previous Galaxy S devices.

While a final decision reportedly hasn’t been made, the latest claims suggest there’s little chance of the Exynos 2700 making its way into Samsung’s top flagship.

Interestingly, this doesn’t appear to be down to poor performance. The Exynos 2700 is reportedly delivering promising results in internal testing, with production yields also said to be improving.

The chip is expected to use Samsung’s second-generation 2nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) manufacturing process, known as SF2P. Compared to the first-generation SF2 process used for the Exynos 2600, Samsung claims the newer technology offers a 12% performance improvement, 25% lower power consumption and an 8% reduction in chip area.

Samsung has also reportedly increased Exynos 2700 production by more than 10% compared to its predecessor, suggesting the company is preparing to use the processor across a wider range of devices.

However, Qualcomm’s longstanding relationship with Samsung could still play a major role in determining which chip powers the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The rest of the Galaxy S27 lineup may follow a different approach. According to the leak, the Galaxy S27, S27+ and rumoured S27 Pro could feature the Exynos 2700 in Europe and South Korea, while models sold in the US and China would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.

That would leave the Ultra as the only model with a consistent chipset across all markets, potentially removing one of the biggest regional differences in Samsung’s flagship lineup.

For now, nothing has been officially confirmed. But if the latest claims prove accurate, Samsung’s most expensive Galaxy S27 model could remain firmly in Qualcomm’s corner, even as its own Exynos chips continue to improve.
