Samsung’s first Android XR smart glasses finally have a launch window – report

Samsung’s first Android XR smart glasses could be just weeks away. The company has reportedly confirmed that its display-free AI glasses will launch in November, narrowing down the broader fall window previously given by Samsung and Google.

According to The Korea Herald, a Samsung official confirmed the November launch, although there’s still no exact date or pricing. The glasses recently appeared in FCC filings, with model numbers SM-O200J and SM-O200P and several variants, adding another sign that the launch is getting close.

Samsung first showed its Intelligent Eyewear alongside Google at I/O in May, before giving us a closer look at Galaxy Unpacked in July. It’s also working with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on different frame designs.

Unlike display-equipped glasses such as XREAL’s Aura, Samsung’s first-generation models won’t put anything in front of your eyes. Instead, they use cameras, microphones, speakers and Gemini to understand what you see and hear. More demanding AI processing will be handled by a connected Galaxy phone, making the glasses more of a lightweight extension of your smartphone than a standalone device.

That puts Samsung into a part of the smart glasses market where Meta currently has a big presence. Counterpoint Research says global AI glasses shipments jumped 263% year over year in the first half of 2026, with display-free models accounting for 96% of shipments. Meta reportedly held 94% of that segment.

Samsung is also said to be targeting a weight of up to 5g less than Meta’s camera-equipped glasses, which start at 51.5g.

Privacy will be another important part of the package. Samsung says LEDs on the inside and outside of the frame will indicate when recording is active, while the camera will switch off if the external indicator is covered. That could be useful as camera-equipped glasses continue to raise questions around people being recorded without knowing it.

For now, November is as specific as Samsung’s launch window gets. With the FCC filings already out in the open and a reported November release, though, the company’s first Android XR glasses are looking considerably closer to becoming a real product.
