Sony is bringing back the transparent design trend of the late ’90s with its new Prism Collection, featuring three translucent colour options for the PS5 console covers and DualSense wireless controllers.

The collection takes inspiration from the see-through gadgets of the original PlayStation era, giving Sony’s current-generation hardware a nostalgic makeover.

The new lineup comes in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray, each featuring a glossy, semi-transparent finish that offers a glimpse of the hardware underneath.

Sony has also carried the design across both the controllers and matching console covers, allowing players to give their entire PS5 setup the same retro-inspired look. While all three colours share the same transparent design, each has a slightly different finish.

Flare Orange has a vibrant appearance with subtle rosy tones where the materials overlap, while Emerald Green offers a deeper, darker green. Graphite Gray takes a more understated approach with a cool-toned grey finish. The controllers also feature a metallic centre section that contrasts with the transparent shell, with the glossy finish extending around the back.

Sony says the collection was inspired by the popularity of transparent gaming accessories in the late 1990s.

Leo Cardoso, from the company’s Colour, Material and Finish design team, explained that the goal was to bring back the familiar see-through look while making it fit the PS5’s modern design. It’s a welcome return for a style that was once common across gaming hardware, particularly for anyone who remembers the colourful transparent controllers of that era.

The Prism Collection launches from 4 February 2027, with pre-orders opening on 10 November 2026 at 10am local time in the UK. The DualSense controllers will cost £74.99 each, while the matching PS5 console covers are priced at £64.99.

Both accessories will be available through PlayStation’s official store, although the console covers will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct in supported regions, including the UK. Availability and exact release dates may vary by region, with limited quantities offered through selected retailers elsewhere.
