Technics has just released its latest pair of over-ear headphones, the EAH-A1000, and we’re keen to see how the cans measure up to Sony’s flagship WH-1000XM6.
Considering the WH-1000XM6 boasts top spot on our best headphones list, the Technics EAH-A1000 has a lot to live up to. With that in mind, we’ve compared its specs to the WH-1000XM6 pair and highlighted the key differences between the two below.

Price and Availability
Available now, the Technics EAH-A1000 has an RRP of £399 / €449.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 has already seen a price drop since its launch back in mid 2025, as it now has an RRP of £349.99. That’s £50 less than its original price. Not only that, but as it’s an older pair of headphones, it is also possible to find the cans even cheaper – especially during sales events like Prime Day or Black Friday.
Technics explains that its EAH-A1000 was built around a newly developed 40mm Magnetic Fluid Driver that draws from the brand’s magnetic fluid technology that’s found in the likes of the EAH-TZ700.
Magnetic fluid, as its name suggests, has both magnetic and liquid properties and supports precise driver moment – something that’s difficult to do with larger-diameter drivers that can cause distortion. This, according to Technics, helps suppress “unwanted vibration and distortion” and enables high precision music reproduction too.
In comparison, the Sony WH-1000XM6 has a 30mm neodymium driver. We found during our time with the headphones that the driver enabled the headphones to sport a stronger sense of bass compared to the WH-1000XM5.
With a promise of up to a whopping 45 hours of continuous playback, the EAH-A1000 looks set to be a brilliant pair of headphones for long-haul journeys and holidays. However, we’ll have to wait until we review the headphones before we can confirm this promise.
In comparison, the WH-1000XM6 promises up to 30 hours of battery life instead, which is the same as its predecessor. Sure it’s still a solid amount of time, and bests the likes of the Apple AirPods Max 2’s measly 20 hours, but it does fall behind many of its competitors.
Both have Adaptive Noise Cancelling
As premium headphones, it’s unsurprising that both the EAH-A1000 and WH-1000XM6 are equipped with adaptive noise cancelling technology. That means each pair of headphones can detect the level of ambient noise and adjust the noise cancelling performance accordingly.
Technics explains that the EAH-A1000 has three feed-forward and one feedback microphone on each side to detect and suppress noise from entering. Sony explains that the WH-1000XM6 is fitted with a total of 12 optimally placed microphones that work with Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 to fine-tune ANC in real time.
As we haven’t reviewed the EAH-A1000 yet, we can’t verify how well the headphones compare directly to the WH-1000XM6.
EAH-A1000 has memory foam earcups while the WH-1000XM6’s earcups are vegan leather
We found the Sony WH-1000XM6 to be a seriously comfortable pair of headphones. The earcups are lightweight and sit nicely against your skin, giving the headphones a better seal for ANC, while the clamping force of the headband is light and doesn’t get in the way of glasses or longer hair.
In comparison, the EAH-A1000 benefits from a re-engineered fit. Technics explains that there’s a range of ear cup movement, a refined headband shape and has an adjustable slider that distributes pressure evenly across the head to reduce strain too. In addition, the ear cups use high-density memory foam too which is promised to balance durability and comfort too.
It’s hard to properly compare the two headphones before we review the Technics EAH-A1000. However, with a promise of longer battery life, a comfortable fit and a newly developed driver to reduce distortion, the EAH-A1000 is definitely a promising pair of headphones.
In comparison, remember the Sony WH-1000XM6 currently holds the title of being the best overall pair of headphones, which means the Technics EAH-A1000 has a lot to live up to.
