Why not every global problem can be tackled by an IPCC-like organization

When Joseph Stiglitz and colleagues wrote in Nature why the world needs an International Panel on Inequality (see Nature 657, 345–348; 2026), they added one more topic to the list of global issues for which advocates find inspiration from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC has been proposed as providing a template for authoritative knowledge assessments of a range of issues, such as antimicrobial resistance, migration, pandemics, food systems and artificial-intelligence governance.

M.H. was a member of the IPCC from 1996 to 2002, is a signatory of the Solar Geoengineering Non-Use Agreement (2021), the Great Barrington Declaration (2020) and the Oxford Declaration on Global Warming (2002).
